Technology is, more than ever, at the forefront of our daily conversations about businesses and society and has become the hottest topic in terms of regulation in Europe. These are the main reasons for several organizations linked to the digital economy in Portugal and the European Union to present the Portugal Tech League. The project brings together a wide range of stakeholders defending the EU’s digital economy community and startups’ interests in regulatory discussions.
The Portugal Tech League is based on two main pillars: clarifying new legislative proposals in the European and Portuguese tech spaces, and collecting recommendations on these proposals for public dissemination through position papers addressed to policymakers in Lisbon and Brussels.
PTL’s development model is based on cycles, given that one specific regulatory proposal will be in the spotlight every two months. After explaining the topic’s relevance and its potential impact on European innovation entrepreneurs, the matter will be more thoroughly explored using secondary & reliable sources and launching a podcast episode. The cycle is completed with open calls for the community to share inputs and recommendations in order to prepare Position Papers alongside the PTL’s partners’ inputs. At the end of each cycle, the paper will be available for download and shared on the project’s website, while being actively shared with European policymakers too. Everyone is invited to access, contribute, and share this content.
In a collective statement, the founding partners say:
The Artificial Intelligence Act, assumed by the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU as a top priority for this second semester, will kickstart Portugal Tech League’s efforts of informing and engaging with the digital community while preparing position papers to be shared with policymakers. The Digital Services and Market Acts, the Startup Nation Standards and EU 2030 Digital Compass, and the topic of Digital Sovereignty and international data flow, are the next topics to be explored.
The Portugal Tech League is a neutral initiative created by the Lisbon-based collaborative innovation consultancy Beta-i, in this first year sponsored by Google and Microsoft, and founded alongside Portuguese unicorns and key organizations such as Allied for Startups, AWS – Amazon Web Services, CIP – Confederation of Portuguese Business, Eupportunity, European Startup Network, FDUCP – Universidade Católica Portuguesa Faculty of Law, GeSI – Global Enabling Sustainability Initiative, Investors Portugal, Startup Portugal, Startup Sesame, Sapo Tek, Talkdesk and VdA. The group has a very open invitation:
Now it’s up to you: take part in our calls to action, share your inputs, subscribe to our newsletter. Come out and play in this league!
